The Gunners of Central Alberta – A Documentary
The Gunners, Central Alberta is a 27 minute documentary by Rueben Tschetter of CACHE Productions. It features the story of the Cormack Armoury (and A-20 Camp) in Red Deer, AB, and the city’s Canadian Forces Reserve Units.
Red Deer was chosen as the location of a large military training camp during WWII, the A-20 Camp, which was located where Cormack Armoury, the Memorial Centre, and Lindsay Thurber High School are now located. The camp was to service and support The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) which built two air bases to the south of the city (at Penhold and Bowden).
Today, 20th Field Artillery Regiment (RCA) – 78th Field Battery and 41 Signal Regiment (2 Sqn) parade out of Cormack Armouries. The Regiments go on exercise to hone their skills, to train to serve their country, and to honour the sacrifices of the ones that came before them. The Gunners is a short film in dedication to their service and to those sacrifices, lest we forget.
