General Sir Arthur Currie Award Dinner 2019
Please join Valour Canada at the 2019 General Sir Arthur Currie Award dinner where we will honour Commander Charles “Chuck” Mawer, DSC.
The General Sir Arthur Currie Award will be presented to the Mawer family in recognition of Commander Mawer’s service to Canada, both while in uniform and during his civilian career. Aligned with the 75th anniversary of the Normandy invasion, Commander Mawer served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard HMCS Haida during the invasion and earned a Distinguished Service Cross for actions against the German Navy in June of 1944. Following the Second World War, Commander Mawer returned to Calgary, and after a long and successful business career he established Mawer and Associates, now Mawer Investment Management. Commander Mawer passed away on October 29, 2006.
The award gala is an evening of military pageantry, music, entertainment, and tribute to the brave men and women of the Canadian Forces. The 2017 event was highlighted by the presentation of the General Sir Arthur Currie Award to the Royal Canadian Legion. During this year’s event, Valour Canada, in partnership with Mawer Investment Management Ltd., will welcome guest speaker Rear-Admiral Haydn Edmundson of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). Also representing the RCN will be the HMCS Tecumseh Band and number of other members of the Senior Service.
