AI Enhanced“Classroom at the Crosses” 2024
A Huge Success!
From October 28 to November 8, 2024, Valour Canada once again collaborated with Field of Crosses for the “Classroom at the Crosses” program (formerly “Hot Chocolate at the Crosses” in 2023, still with plenty of hot chocolate!). Over nine days and six evenings, we welcomed more than 1,800 students, Cadets, Girl Guides, and Scouts to explore Canadian military history, peacekeeping, and service.
Kicking off a week earlier than last year to meet increased demand, the program took place at Field of Crosses, creating a powerful learning environment where young minds engaged with stories of sacrifice, service, and the significance of Remembrance.
This year, a larger artifact-handling tent and an expanded collection of historical items allowed youth to connect with history through hands-on experiences. New volunteers—including veterans and military history experts—joined our team, bringing even more knowledge and personal stories to inspire the next generation.
Thank you to everyone who made this year’s “Classroom at the Crosses” a resounding success:
- The Field of Crosses team for their continued collaboration.
- The 41 Canadian Brigade Group for their essential support in setting up and taking down the artifact-handling tent.
- Our dedicated artifact-handling volunteers, especially members of Ypres 3 CAV (Canadian Army Veteran), for guiding students through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
- Valour Canada’s Directors (i.e., board members) for volunteering their time, knowledge, tent equipment, and storage space.
Valour Canada extends its heartfelt gratitude to Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) for their generous support through the Community Engagement Grant, which has made this program possible.
