“Hot Chocolate at the Crosses”: Huge Success!
Over seven days and three evenings from November 1 to 9, 2023, we educated 1,047 youth. Please explore:
- CTV News report “Valour Canada program teaches Calgary students Canadian military history“
- Global News interview “New education program looks to share Canada’s military history“.
We wish to thank all of our friends and supporters for their assistance and support:
- A big thank you to The Field of Crosses team: Murray McCann, Susan Schalin, Bart Peake, Gail Peake, Major (ret’d) Kent Griffiths, and the hot chocolate station volunteers for making this collaboration a huge success.
- Special appreciation to Valour Board Directors Brad Pierce and James (J.R.) Cox for their time and generosity in providing equipment, storage space and more. Another special thank you to the Calgary Curling Club for allowing us classroom space for presentations to students about the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
- We’d also like to thank Colonel Christopher Hunt, Captain Simon Li, and the 41 Canadian Brigade Group for their vital support in setting up and taking down the artifact-handling mod-tent.
- Our gratitude extends to our dedicated artifact-handling volunteers: members of the Ypres 3 CAV (Canadian Army Veteran) Faron Brown, David Hartman, David Quick, John Sereda, and Tom MacCarl, as well as our own Board Director Vicki. Caroline, our University of Calgary student, also supported. Their efforts guiding students through hands-on experiences were invaluable.
