Please join Valour Canada at our Speaker Series event featuring Dr. Timothy Stapleton, Professor of the University of Calgary.
Dr. Timothy Stapleton is a professor in the Department of History, and Graduate Program Director for the Centre of Military, Security and Strategic Studies (CMSS) at the University of Calgary. Before coming to Calgary, he taught at Trent University in Ontario and the University of Fort Hare and Rhodes University in South Africa. Working on African military history, Dr. Stapleton has published 13 sole authored books and numerous journal articles and book chapters. His latest books include New Directions in African Military History (Routledge, 2025) and West African Soldiers in Britain’s Colonial Army (1860-1960) (Boydell and Brewer, 2022). Currently a research fellow at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Military Science in South Africa and an honorary professor at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, he has also held research positions at universities in Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
