He is a frequent commentator in the media, a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Member of the Order of Canada.
On January 11 and 12, 2024, Valour Canada invites you to join us across two venues for two different in-person presentations by Tim Cook, who will delve into distinct topics, offering diverse and enriching insights into Canadian military history.
Presentation 1: January 11, 2024 | The Ranchmen’s Club
On January 11, 2024, join us at The Ranchmen’s Club for Dr. Tim Cook’s presentation “Forgetting, Remembering and Remaking Canada’s Second World War”, which includes a complimentary signed copy of his book, The Fight for History: 75 Years of Forgetting, Remembering, and Remaking Canada’s Second World War (Complimentary books graciously provided by Manteo).
Cook will examine the strange way that Canadians ignored for decades their epic contributions during the Second World War. Despite 1.1 million Canadians having served in uniform, and millions more who supported the total war effort from the home front, Canada rapidly left the war behind, publishing few histories, building fewer monuments, and advancing into the prosperous second half of the twentieth century. He will talk about the neglect of our Second World War history until quite recently, and highlight the key role of veterans in reclaiming this important legacy of service and sacrifice.

Presentation 2: January 12, 2024 | The Military Museums

Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience The Military Museums’ current exhibit “Blood, Sweat and Tears: Canadian Military Medicine”. This event is made possible through the valued collaboration between Valour Canada and The Military Museums, featuring the Army Museum of Alberta.
Cook will offer an illustrated presentation on his newest book, Lifesavers and Body Snatchers: Medical Care and the Struggle for Survival in the Great War. The shocking brutality of the fighting during the Great War led to medical innovations that saved soldiers’ lives. Doctors and surgeons prevented disease from decimating armies, confronted ghastly wounds from chemical weapons, remade shattered bodies, and struggled to ease soldiers’ battle-haunted minds. After the war, the hard lessons learned by doctors and nurses were brought back to Canada to further treat and save Canadians. (Appetizers graciously provided by Walrus Investments Ltd.)
